New Cartoon Collection : Holiday Panda

We keep telling ourselves that we're done with our Christmas 2017 designs, then we get inspired by our muses (this time, the cute face of our 5-pound "director of Whimsy and Merriment".)

Introducing our Holiday Panda:

New Design: October Colors

If you're like us, you believe that the most wonderful time of year doesn't necessarily fall in December.

We love this typeface so much that we didn't want to overshadow it with large graphics.

It's available as a t-shirt on Amazon (just search for "Janusian Gallery" from Amazon's home page).

It's also available at Zazzle:

More Redesigning: Indian Corn

When we rework our products, we don't always start from scratch. Sometimes, we have an image that's OK, but not noteworthy, like this Indian corn:

He gets much more interesting when we stick him in the middle of a corn maze, under a stylized sun:

More Halloween Redesigns

We had posted some stark, minimalist Halloween designs last year that just never took off the way we wanted them to:

and

We've been influenced this year by more elaborate designs with multiple typefaces, borders and little embellishments and redesigned the products for 2017:

New Halloween Design: Pushing Up Daisies

Darren wasn't sure whether Lynne was kidding when she said she wanted her new design on party supplies at her funeral someday. She was "dead serious", even though she created it as tongue-in-check Halloween design.

Get it at Zazzle, RedBubble, and Society6, at the links at right.

Product Redesign: Valentine's Day Rebus

We're continuing to refresh our older designs. Here's another before and after:

Above: We really liked the idea of a rebus, but thought the design fell flat.

Above: The new design has more elements and a border. We think it makes a great conversation starter, especially given the message "Can you see how much I love you?"

Another Product Redesign: Better in the Mirror

We're continuing to review and revise our products. Here's one design that didn't make the grade:

Although there was technically nothing wrong with it, we were nevertheless underwhelmed with our handiwork. We thought the mirror was too big and the type too minimalist. Most importantly, we didn't see any reason for someone to buy the product (and apparently, neither did our site visitors.)

As an art gallery, we know it's all about the curation. Put 10 great paintings and one mediocre one together and all that people notice is the inferior one. Since we thought the idea behind our image -- that everyone's had a fashion mishap where something looked way better in the mirror than it did out and about -- still had merit, we decided to rework the design. Here's our "after":

We prefer this look because the heavier text better serves as a design element. We also added some color. We reduced the mirrors to type accents, because we didn't think the mirror had enough visual interest to stand on its own large. (At the bigger size, we thought it read a little like a 0, which we didn't want.) We also liked the subtlety of the shadow underneath the word "better".

We then applied our new design to only those other products where it made sense. For example, there was no good reason to put this design on a trailer hitch, coffee mug, beach towel, etc. We see other designers make this mistake and think it shows a lack of thinking about the customer. Sometimes, despite our best intentions, we make that mistake ourselves. For example, here's a "before and after" where we did a "palm to the face" on the "before":

(What on earth were we thinking with the too-large image placement on a ***round*** button?)

See the entire redesigned "In the Mirror" collection here:

We hope to bring you more fresh designs over the next few weeks and invite you to visit us at janusiangallery.com/Merch/ to see where you can buy Janusian Gallery designs.
